Real Dream

A beam of life collided with a grain of sand
Convection caused the whirlwind
And what should have been a passing swirl
Formed
Without fanfare, trumpets, howls or kicks
The earth’s own womb opened
Birthing a new creation.
Sinewy legs without sinew
Muscle, bone, skin woven into
A zephyr of sheer silken mist
Crowned with sensual mystery
Golden wisps of hair-like softness flowing in stillness
An omnipresent face shrouded
In a veil of mystical tranquility
Beautiful, majestic, plain, fearsome, elegant
All things and no one thing
Focused upon the beyond … the far shore
Intent, content, enraptured.
And then, she … he … it turned to me
Small me, now barely able to breathe
A gaze I could only feel
Overwhelmingly feel
A gesture for me to come
And I am drawn in slow motion
To this specter of all … life, death, in-between.
Closer I move into arm’s reach
Then into the bosom, the heart, the embrace
My senses electric with freezing cold, blazing warmth
Heavenly peace, deathly dread
Everything and nothing
Engulfed in cosmic joy and fear.
Suddenly the whirlwind begins again
We together within
Dancing, dying, crying, singing, living
In a spire of phantasmagorical reality.
I feel a distinct pressing, shaking on my shoulder
A distant voice, "wake up, wake up …
you’re going to get a sunburn!".
I slowly open my eyes to see my lovely wife
Shimmering in the glow of real life.
