Lessons

Look at my son, isn’t he beautiful
Innocent, loving, depending on me for everything
Look at my daddy, isn’t he beautiful
Strong, loving, growing and protecting me in all things
Look at my son, how smart he is becoming
Learning the lessons of books at school
Of life from me and mommy
Look at my daddy, the best man on earth
Teaching me to grow to become, guiding me to my future
I hope and strive to be just like him
Look at my son so soft so tender so vulnerable
I am overwhelmed with love and hope for him
….
Daddy, daddy sometimes I’m scared
Sometimes it seems you’re here, but not here
I have heard noises at night daddy
Mommy covered my ears one night and I wanted you so badly
I was afraid for mommy and you
I heard you and mommy talking loudly, meanly to each other
Why is that daddy ... it makes me afraid
Are you angry at me, am I not enough
You’re the one who keeps me safe and warm
You make me glow and growI need you and mommy
I love you and mommy
Look at me daddy, I am your best
Am I your worst
