Fit4U - Introduction

Fit4U
What the hell is “Fit4U”?
I have been a fitness aficionado for 50 plus years. At various times you could replace “aficionado” with addict, lover, needer, liver—but never hater or quitter. Many people have asked me “how do you stay in shape, how do you keep disciplined, how do you …?” Meaning, I would like to, but can’t get to where I want to be with fitness—how do you?
I ask them “What is your hobby, what enhances your life without conscious effort?” It might be reading, bird watching, sailing, painting, anything … nothing? And, invariably, I would likely be unable to develop the deep interest or discipline I have for fitness in your special interest.
Fitness, living fit, exercising, conscious eating, mental connection are all fundamental to how I live—they are passions. How and why I gravitated to this is anyone’s guess. I just say I was “predisposed”, just as you are to your passion.
We are now in a “fitness culture” with a focus on health and longevity, and fitness is viewed as a critical component to those goals. So, one might say I was fortunate in what turned me on—became my passion—in this respect; fitness comes “easy” and natural to me. For many, perhaps you, it is not—lack of interest, gravitational pull, whatever—and it becomes difficult, akin to taking medicine.
I had an experience in the Army when a RIF was happening in late 70s/early 80s. A RIF is a “Reduction in Force” and the Army was targeting overweight soldiers. They were given a period of time to meet fitness requirements or they would be forced to leave the service. I was asked to assist those who desired to “get in shape”.
These men had been in the service for 5-15 years, some planning to make the service a career. In this process, I learned that no matter how much someone desired to meet the Army standards, it could be extremely difficult—impossible in some cases—even though their very livelihood and career depended on it.
So, when I say Fit4U, I do not mean Fit4Me. I have no magic formula nor recipe for Fit4All. There is not one. There are so many fitness plans, diet types, and methods prescribed to get you where you desire to be with your “fitness”, but the devil is in the detail, the execution—”How do I actually become fit?” And really, “What exactly is ‘fit’?”
I could rail on about motivation, goals, priorities, longevity, but you have probably thought about these things or at least understand their importance. But, again, “How do I?”
Well, I can tell you this. I believe we could work together to develop a plan, and I could coach you to success—to achieving your stated goals, which I could help you develop. There are a multitude of fitness coaches and gurus who promise the same. And I have no doubt, that you can find one to assist you.
Be selfish for yourself. Get fit.
